Kuala Lumpur, 4 Dec 2020 – INCEIF is pleased to announce that Assoc Prof Dr Aishath Muneeza, faculty member and Subject Matter Expert on Shariah and Law, has been appointed to the Working Group for online Islamic crowdfunding standards by Accounting and Auditing Organisation for Islamic Financial Institutions (AAOIFI).
The Bahrain-based Islamic finance standards-setting body is working on a standard for online Islamic crowdfunding and plans to have it ready by the end of 2021. The objective of this standard is to set out a comprehensive framework for Islamic crowdfunding governance with detailed coverage of areas relating to the cybersecurity and disclosure requirements in such instruments.
Dr Aishath is part of the 10-member working group which comprises a number of leading international experts in the field who are helping in developing the standard.
A Maldivian, Dr Aishath is acknowledged as of one of the founders of the Islamic finance industry in Maldives. She was a driving force behind the setting up of a number of institutions offering Islamic finance in her country. As a policy maker, attorney and also an academician who has tirelessly fought for the sustainable development of Islamic finance in her country, she is a role model and a mentor for women who aspire to develop a career in Islamic finance.
INCEIF, which aims to be the knowledge and thought leader in Islamic finance, has always prided itself as a university that emphasises on close relationship between academia and industry. This latest appointment of a faculty member to a working group by an Islamic finance standard setting body is an invaluable achievement towards bridging the gap between academics and industry.
