Johor Bahru, 18 August 2019 – INCEIF today donated 187 waqf books to Kolej Pengajian Islam Johor (MARSAH) in Johor Bahru. The academic books comprised 186 titles in English, Bahasa Malaysia and Arabic, on finance, banking and economics (Islamic and conventional) subjects, and general Islamic studies. The books, worth RM45,000, were donated by INCEIF students, alumni and faculty members.
The books were handed over by INCEIF Director of Research Management Centre Assoc Prof Dr Baharom Abdul Hamid to MARSAH Rector Prof Abdul Ghafar Ismail at a brief ceremony in MARSAH. The books will be part of the collection of MARSAH’s School of Waqf.
INCEIF Knowledge Management Centre Manager Nur Azlina Zorollah said: “We hope that through this effort we are able to spread knowledge to a wider community, and that the books will be useful references for MARSAH students.”
Dr Baharom also delivered a talk on `Saving The Planet: The Islamic Finance Way’ during a knowledge sharing session held for MARSAH staff and students from the Schools of Muamalat and Management. In his talk, he highlighted to the students that a qualification in Islamic finance would enable them to work beyond the traditional banking and finance industry.
“If you are concerned about the environment, climate change and equal opportunity to all, your Islamic finance education could set you on the path towards becoming sustainability-minded professionals. Issues such as taking care of the environment, giving fair and just financial help to the needy and underserved, are already part of Islamic finance,” said Dr Baharom.
