RM5 million worth of Takaful Coverage for Selected INCEIF Students

Kuala Lumpur, 20 June 2019 – Fifty INCEIF students, 30 years old and below, today received RM5 million worth of takaful coverage from Hong Leong MSIG Takaful (HLM Takaful).

Each of the students not only received RM100,000 in Basic Sum Covered for six months with HLM Takaful i-Salam plan, but INCEIF’s top 20 students were also given the opportunity to sit for the Takaful Basic Examination (TBE), which would allow them to become professional takaful agents.

The takaful coverage presentation was held at INCEIF Campus today. INCEIF was represented by President & CEO Prof Dato’ Dr Azmi Omar while HLM Takaful was represented by CEO Mohd Asri Omar.

Dato’ Azmi said INCEIF, as a university set up by Bank Negara Malaysia with a mandate to develop professional expertise that demonstrates discipline in both intellectual leadership as well as in operational practice, looked forward to forge closer relationship with industry players such as HLM Takaful.

INCEIF recently launched an Action Based Learning (ABL) course for its Masters in Islamic Finance Practice and MSc in Islamic Finance programmes. The ABL is structured to transform student learning experience from theoretical concepts to solving real-life industry problems. Through ABL, students get a chance to work with leading industry practitioner as well as policymakers which allow them to deal and explore on real banking, takaful and finance issues.

“Therefore, INCEIF is thankful for the opportunity given by HLM Takaful for our students to sit for the Takaful Basic Examination which will allow them to become professional takaful agents,” added Dato’ Azmi.

Mohd Asri said HLM Takaful continued to champion its Value-Based Intermediation (VBI) initiative through the `Takaful for Youth’ programme.

“It is common for graduates to be exposed to various risks when entering the workforce. Hence, awareness and proper risk protection planning are essential. Young adults need to ensure that they have adequate takaful coverage in addition to their employer’s group insurance at the start of their career,” said Mohd Asri.

The `Takaful for Youth’ programme which was launched on 5 April 2019 at Bank Negara Malaysia’s Karnival Kewangan Terengganu is a holistic value proposition to facilitate the practical adoption of VBI. The programme embraces the VBI principles and adds value to society by working closely with academic institutions to bring takaful protection, career opportunities and access to its takaful plans to match the needs of the millennials.
