Alumna Tunku Alina appointed to the boards of Malaysia Building Society Berhad and IJM Corporation Berhad

INCEIF congratulates Alumna Dr Tunku Alina Raja Muhd Alias who has been appointed to the Board of Directors of Malaysia Building Society Berhad (MBSB) and IJM Corporation Berhad, effective 26 September  and 1 November 2017 respectively.

MBSB is a step closer to becoming a full-fledged Islamic bank after its recent proposed acquisition of Asian Finance Bank. The acquisition would make MBSB the third fully Shariah-compliant listed company in the financial services industry, after BIMB Holdings Bhd and Syarikat Takaful Malaysia Bhd.

IJM is one of Malaysia’s leading conglomerates and is listed on the Main Market of Bursa Malaysia Securities Berhad. Its core business activities encompass construction, property development, manufacturing and quarrying, infrastructure concessions and plantations.

Tunku Alina specialises in philanthropy and her particular area of interest is the Waqf. She was among the fi­rst 3 PhD graduates of INCEIF during INCEIF 3rd Convocation in 2011. Her PhD thesis “Unleashing the Potential of the Waqf as an Economic Institution in Malaysia: Policy, Legal and Economic Reforms” discusses the historical development of Waqf laws in Malaysian states, and more importantly the potential and strategies for the institution to contribute to the economy in terms of growth and development.

She is an advocate and solicitor of the High Court of Malaya by profession, having been in active practice in Kuala Lumpur for more than 20 years whereby she concentrates on investments and wealth management by her corporate clients. She is also a mediator associated with both the Malaysian Bar Council and the Singapore Mediation Council.

Tunku Alina was an Adjunct Professor of the School of Law, University of Miami teaching Islamic Finance law.
