INCEIF Received MoHE’s Acknowledgment as An Excellent Education Provider

16 Nov 2017, Kuala Lumpur – INCEIF has been ranked Excellent (5-Star) in the Rating System for Malaysian Higher Education institutions SETARA ’17 by the Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE).

INCEIF Deputy President Operations Mr Dzalin Ayub received the award from Minister Dato’ Seri Idris Jusoh at the award ceremony today.

Sistem Penarafan Universiti dan Kolej Universiti (Malaysia Rating for University and University College Excellence) or SETARA measures the quality of all private and public universities and university colleges, including foreign branch campuses. SETARA-2017 focussed on institutional excellence for Higher Learning Institution (HLI) to build strong fundamentals to deliver on three core functions: (i) Teaching and Learning, (ii) Research and Innovation, and (iii) Services to Community and Industry. The rating instrument is based on a seven-step methodology encompassing national and international benchmarking, stakeholders’ engagement, pilot run, data verification as well as sensitivity and validity analysis. The process is evidence-based and involves a campus visit audit by MoHE representatives. The result of audit classifies institutions into six different rating – Rating 1: Poor, Rating 2: Satisfactory, Rating 3: Good, Rating 4: Very Good, Rating 5: Excellent and Rating 6: Outstanding.

INCEIF is classified in the `Emerging University’ category (15 years or less). For this category, the rating comprises four main criteria which are General (40%), Teaching and Learning (40%), Research (15%), and Services (5%). SETARA-2017 Chief Auditor Prof Datuk Dr Mohd Saleh Jaafar said besides looking at the four criteria and other relevant data, institutions’ financial statements were also closely examined.

Mr Dzalin said: “We are extremely honoured and proud to receive this acknowledgment from MoHE. Achieving a 5-Star rating is a highly significant moment for us as we constantly strive to fulfil our quest to be a knowledge leader in Islamic finance. The recognition is a result of INCEIF’s perseverance and dedication to constantly be better and strive to provide the highest quality of postgraduate research, teaching and learning.

Dzalin Ayub, Deputy President Operation, receiving the SETARA-17 report from Dato’ Seri Idris Jusoh this morning. INCEIF has been awarded a 5-star rating putting the university at the top of the list in Emerging University category.

“Achieving a good rating in SETARA will directly impact INCEIF’s mission specifically in strengthening our reputation and academic excellence. Being the only postgraduate university specialising in Islamic finance, this acknowledgment from MoHE will certainly raise confidence among our stakeholders including faculty and staff, existing students and the Board as well as partners and prospective students,” Mr Dzalin added.

The SETARA rating adds to INCEIF’s growing list of achievements. Since 2015, INCEIF’s research has been ranked 1st in Malaysia amongst the higher education institutions in the Research Papers in Economics (RePec) rankings. It is also the only institution to have the research of five professors recognised by RePec, among the top 30 academics in Malaysia.  INCEIF is ranked 40th in Asia as a university.  Within the Financial Economics & Finance Department category, defined by REPEC, INCEIF ranked 30th in the world.
