Kuala Lumpur, 11 Sep – INCEIF is proud to announce that the university was recently awarded the Best Research/ Academic Institutions at the 7th Annual Asia Islamic Banking and Takaful Conference. At the same event, Faculty member Assoc Prof Dr Aishath Muneeza was awarded the Upcoming Personality in IF Award.
Since 2015, INCEIF’s research has been ranked 1st in Malaysia amongst the higher education institutions in the Research Papers in Economics (RePec) rankings. INCEIF is also the only institution to have the research of five professors recognised by RePec, among the top 30 academics in Malaysia. As a university, INCEIF is ranked 40th in Asia. Within the Financial Economics & Finance Department category, defined by REPEC, INCEIF is ranked 30th in the world.
Dr. Aishath Muneeza, who is from Maldives, is among the key founders of Islamic finance in the island nation. She has experience in multiple aspects of Islamic finance industry including as a Shariah Advisor, a regulator and an attorney who is actively involved in promoting Islamic finance. She is the driving force behind the establishment of Maldives Hajj Corporation. She structured the first corporate sukuk offered in Maldives and has also structured the Islamic Treasury Instruments for the government of Maldives. The Islamic Capital Market framework of Maldives has been shaped under her guidance and the legal framework of Islamic Capital Market in Maldives was developed by her. She has published numerous books on Islamic finance, available in all major bookstores across Malaysia and she is the first to publish comprehensive books on Islamic finance in Maldives’Dhivehi language. She has received the prestigious “Rehendhi Award” highest award for women, conferred by the government of Maldives for her contribution in the development of Islamic finance industry. Currently she chairs the Maldives Centre for Islamic Finance that was set up by the government of Maldives to position the country as one of the hubs of Islamic finance and halal industry in the South Asia region.
