INCEIF Deputy President Academic Retires

Kuala Lumpur, 20 July 2017 – INCEIF Deputy President Academic Prof Datuk Dr Syed Othman Alhabshi has retired effective today.

A respected academician, Datuk Dr Syed Othman joined INCEIF in 2007 as the Professor of Islamic Economics & Econometrics and Head of Takaful Faculty.  He was then appointed as Chief Academic Officer in 2008. He has served in various academic capacities in five different universities in the country since 1969. The universities are Universiti of Malaya, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) and Universiti Utara Malaysia. In1997, he served as the Founding President and CEO of University Tun Abdul Razak.

At the recent INCEIF Eid-Ul Fitr celebration he said, “I have gathered people to have a powerhouse of knowledge in Islamic Finance“. INCEIF’s faculty members are global leaders in their respective fields and their main objective is to provide an outstanding educational experience for all our students. In addition to that, they oversee the quality and integrity of our academic programmes as well as play an important role in the recruitment and retention of excellent students from around the world and providing outstanding opportunities for professional development that can enhance career options which will contribute to a sustainable community. As much as possible, our faculty members are: current, engaging and leading.

INCEIF would like to record its thanks to Datuk Dr Syed Othman for his invaluable contribution to INCEIF in particular and Islamic finance education in general. The university wishes him all the best for his future undertaking.

INCEIF Dean of School of Professional Studies, Mr Ezamshah Ismail has been named the Acting Deputy President Academics, in addition to his current role at the university. 

 “I accept this trust with honour and humility, and hope to continue receiving the support from my colleagues in ensuring the success of INCEIF in becoming the Islamic finance Graduate School of choice as well as the global point of reference in Islamic finance knowledge,” he said.

An industry expert on insurance and Takaful, Mr Ezamshah is a member of the Society of Actuaries, US. He holds a Masters in Actuarial Science from North Eastern University, US, a Certificate in Syariah Law and an LLM in Business Law from International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM). Previously, he served as Chief Executive Officer of Hong Leong Tokio Marine Takaful Berhad and prior to that, CEO for Commerce Life Assurance Berhad.
