INCEIF today played host, for the second time, to 19 Business undergraduate students from Babson College in Massachusetts, US. The students, who were accompanied by Murata Professor of Business Ethics Prof Dr. James Hoopes, were received by Emeritus Prof Datuk Mohamed Ariff. He later gave a presentation on ` Finance Paradigm: Ethics & Governances’.
Babson College students briefed on Islamic finance by Prof Ariif.
The students were also informed on the basic principles and philosophy of Islamic finance, its application in the banking and financial services industry globally as well as in Malaysia. In addition, the students get their questions on the significant difference between Islamic finance and conventional finance answered during the Q-and-A session after the presentation.
Babson College is ranked No. 1 among all business schools in the USA for entrepreneurship education. The students, comprising mostly Americans, were in Malaysia for a week for a study tour on `Social Responsibility in Malaysia’. The tour took them to publishing house Karangkraf in Shah Alam to learn about its entrepreneurship programme and Petronas in Kuala Lumpur for the oil company’s CSR efforts.
“We decided to include INCEIF in this study tour as the students wanted to find out more about Islamic Finance, such as what can this financial system do to inculcate social responsibility among its practitioners,” Prof Hoopes said.
