Visitors from UPenn

INCEIF today received 12 students and 3 Faculty members from the University of Pennsylvania who are on a week-long visit to Malaysia to learn, among others things, about Islamic Finance and its successful applications in the country. The visit, which was facilitated by INCEIF, included briefings by respective experts from Bank Negara Malaysia, Securities Commission, Malaysia Takaful Association of Malaysia, the Judiciary as well as local and international Islamic banks.

At INCEIF, the group were briefed on Islamic Finance and INCEIF by Prof. Datuk Dr. Syed Othman Alhabshi, Chief Executive Officer, First Holder of INCEIF Chair of Islamic Finance Prof. Abbas Mirakhor and INCEIF Chief Operations Officer, Mr. Mohd Zamree Ishak respectively. They also had a tour of the new campus.

 

Adjunct Professor of Islamic Finance, Penn Law & Wharton School of Business, Prof. Michael J.T. McMillen said the group, which comprised 12 undergraduate and postgraduates students from Penn Law and Wharton Business School, found the trip beneficial as it allowed them an invaluable interaction with Islamic finance practitioners and policy makers . For them, Malaysia was the best place to see Islamic finance in action as the Islamic financial services have been developed and practiced successfully for nearly three decades.

 

Apart from Prof. McMillen, the group was also accompanied by Prof. Michael S. Knoll, Theodore K. Warner, Professor of Law and Ms. Lauren Swift, International Programs Coordinator.
