University of Maryland visits INCEIF

 

Thirteen MBA students from the University of Maryland, USA, ,visited INCEIF today to learn more about Islamic Finance and the programmes offered. The group, headed by Dr Hassan Ibrahim, a Tyser Teaching Fellow of Information Systems from the Robert H. Smith School of Business, were conducting a “Doing Business in Malaysia” study and wanted to find out one of its growing components which is Islamic Finance. As the sole university to offer postgraduate studies in Islamic Finance, INCEIF was naturally one of the university’s must-stopover.

INCEIF Head of Consultancy & Executive Programmes, Prof Dr Saiful Azhar Rosly, gave a presentation  on ‘Usury , Trade and Islamic Finance’ where he briefed the students on the pillars of Islamic finance, the many products available in the markets and their advantages to a consumer looking for an alternative to the conventional products. The students also had many questions for Prof Saiful, most of which were related to subprime crisis and how Islamic financial institutions would react to such a crisis. The students come from varied background including the US Army, pharmaceutical, engineering and real estate.

The visit, organised by the Prime Minister’s Department, also included visits to the Federal Administrative Capital of Putrajaya and other government agencies.
