INCEIF signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Waseda University, Nihonbashi, Tokyo to collaborate on research, student exchange, joint conference and seminars as well as consultancy amongst others. INCEIF was represented by its Chief Academic Officer, Prof. Datuk Dr. Syed Othman Alhabshi while Waseda University was represented by its Dean for Waseda Graduate School of Finance, Accounting and Law, Prof. Megumi Suto.

Prof. Syed Othman later delivered a talk on “Growing the Takaful Market in Japan : Lessons Learnt from Malaysia” in an event organised by REDMONEY’s IFN Japan Roadshow 2011. After the talk, a meeting was held to discuss on short term lecture series to be held in the first quarter of 2012 to kick off the spirit of the MoU with Waseda University.

In the year 2007, Waseda University celebrated the 125th anniversary of its founding by Shigenobu Okuma, scholar and government leader. Waseda University is at the moment one of Japan’s top private, co-educational institutions of higher learning. Founded as a college with three departments under the old Japanese system of higher education, it has since grown to become a comprehensive university with two senior high schools and a School of Art and Architecture.
