SIBOS 2011 commenced yesterday in Toronto, Canada. Every year Sibos brings together influential leaders from financial institutions, market infrastructures, multinational corporations and technology partners to do business and shape the future of the financial industry. It is a unique forum to collaborate and take collective action in payments, securities, cash management and trade. It is estimated that SIBOS will attract approximately 8,000 participants from across the globe.
This year, the Sibos conference programme is built around four big topics:
- Regulation re-visited
- Changing landscape, new expectations
- Global and local perspectives
INCEIF is represented by Mr Daud Vicary Abdullah, President and Chief Executive Officer. He was invited by the organiser to be one of the panelist under the session titled ‘Islamic Finance 2.0: Global opportunities for all’. The session was held today (20 September 2011) at 9.30 am. Together with Mr Daud, Mr Rushdi Siddiqui (Global Head of Islamic Finance, Thomson Reuters) was invited to be the moderator for the session. Mr Yakub Bobat (Global Head of HSBC Amanah, Commercial Banking, HSBC) and Mr Afaq Khan (CEO, Islamic Banking, Standard Chartered Saadiq) were the other two panelists.
The session delved into issues of growth, sustainability, opportunities and challenges for Islamic finance. An interview with Mr Daud Vicary will be conducted tomorrow morning by SibosTV on the contents of the session held today.
