New President & Chief Executive Officer of INCEIF

Mr Daud Vicary Abdullah                             Dato’ Agil Natt

INCEIF, The Global University of Islamic Finance, wishes to announce the appointment of Mr Daud Vicary Abdullah as the President & Chief Executive Officer of INCEIF effective 2 August 2011.  Mr Vicary Abdullah takes over from Dato’ Agil Natt who retires as President & Chief Executive Officer on 31 July 2011.

INCEIF would like to thank Dato’ Agil Natt who has helmed INCEIF since its inception and steered the University to where it is today. As at June 2011, enrolment of INCEIF students has reached 1,930 comprising 1,755 Chartered Islamic Finance Professional (CIFP) students, 67 Masters in Islamic Finance and 108 PhD in Islamic Finance candidates.  To date, there are 113 CIFP and MIF graduates and by the end of the year, the first batch of PhD graduates is expected to graduate.

In its fifth year of operation, INCEIF remains the only university in the world to focus solely on postgraduate studies in Islamic finance. As a result, the university has attracted partners from all over the world who showed interest in tapping into its pool of Islamic finance experts. Of its current 26 Faculty members, 13 are full professors who are renowned for their expertise in the area of Islamic finance.

Our university collaborative partners include 9 local universities; ICMA Centre, Henley Business School, University of Reading, UK; Reims Management School, France; University of Luxembourg, Luxembourg; University of Bahrain, Bahrain; and Universitas Indonesia, Indonesia.

Our industry collaborative partners include Malaysian Institute of Accountants, Malaysian Financial Planning Council, Malaysian Takaful Association, OCBC Al-Amin Bank Bhd, Takaful Ikhlas Sdn Bhd, Iran Banking Institute and Managerial & Financial Training Centre of Saudi Arabia.

The CIFP is already the preferred Islamic Finance qualification among the local and foreign financial institutions.

INCEIF was granted the Project of National Interest status by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak in his capacity as the Minister of Finance, indicating INCEIF’s significant role in the development of human capital for the Islamic finance industry.

Dato’ Agil said, “It has been an honour and privilege to have been given the opportunity by Bank Negara Malaysia to be among the pioneering group of staff to establish this unique University.  The entire team worked very hard for the University to gain local and international recognition and more recently, the industry has acknowledged the University by making CIFP the preferred qualification for professionals in the Islamic financial services industry.”

“As I hand over the reins to Brother Daud, who is no stranger to INCEIF, I am confident that under his guidance INCEIF will only achieve greater prominence,” he added.

Mr Vicary Abdullah, who holds an Economic and Social History Honours degree from the University of Bristol in England, has been in the finance and consulting industry for more than 38 years. Since 2002, he has focused exclusively on Islamic finance where he has contributed to a number of books on the subject and has co-authored a book on Islamic Finance entitled “Islamic Finance: Why it makes sense.” He is also a frequent speaker and commentator on matters relating to Islamic finance.

He is a CIFP, a Distinguished Fellow of the Islamic Banking and Finance Institute of Malaysia (IBFIM) and a former Board member (2003 – 2007) of the Accounting and Auditing Organization for Islamic Financial Institutions (AAOIFI). Prior to INCEIF, he was the Global Islamic Finance Leader with Deloitte. He was also previously Acting CEO of Asian Finance Bank and first Managing Director of Hong Leong Islamic Bank.

“I am delighted to have the opportunity to build on the success of my predecessor Dato’ Agil Natt. In particular I will be looking to build on the CIFP programme to ensure that it becomes the most relevant and premier Islamic Finance professional qualification in the world. Through close association and dialogue with the Global Islamic Finance industry, INCEIF and its sister organisation ISRA (International Shariah Research Academy) will provide cutting edge research that provides benefit to industry practitioners.

“I am looking forward to the challenge at INCEIF,” adds Mr Vicary Abdullah.
