INCEIF Alumni Begin Tenure as Visiting Fellows and Scholar in Residence at Oxford

Oxford, 14 Oct 2019 – Three INCEIF alumni  has started their one year tenure as Visiting Fellows and Scholar in Residence at University of Oxford.

Dr Tarik Akin of Turkey and Dr Hashim Jusoh of Malaysia are Visiting Fellows at The Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies (OCIS) in UK under a Scholar in Residence Programme in Islamic Finance which is supported by OCIS and the Securities Commission Malaysia. Dr Abdul Kader Ouatik El Alaoui of France, meanwhile, is a Scholar in Residence.

Dr Tarik, who is the Division Director at the Finance Office of the Presidency of the Republic of Turkey, said it was indeed an honour for the INCEIF alumni to be sharing their collective experience in Islamic finance at Oxford while at the same time, learning from fellow academics and students at the centuries-old university. “I will conduct a research on risk-sharing asset-based redistribution and its viability as a public policy tool during my time at Oxford.”

As with the other alumni, Dr Tarik would also give occasional lectures and conduct seminars at Oxford during their time here.

The Visiting Fellowships programme at Oxford enables scholars to undertake a period of independent study and research at Oxford and contribute, as members of the Centre, to the wider academic life of Oxford. OCIS is a recognised independent centre of the University of Oxford. Established in 1985, the Centre provides a meeting point for the Western and Islamic worlds of learning. At Oxford, it contributes to the multi-disciplinary and cross-disciplinary study of the Muslim world. Applicants for the fellowship must be specialists in Islamic finance and/or a closely related discipline, preferably with practical experience of policy-making. The Visiting Fellow are expected to conduct research on a topic of contemporary relevance to the field and to participate in a range of academic activities at Oxford.
