Towards Strengthening Corporate and Shari`ah Governance in Islamic Banks




The IFSB-INCEIF Executive Forum aims to provide a platform for global leaders in Islamic finance to discuss selected emerging issues facing the global Islamic financial services industry. The Executive Forum places emphasis on issues related to supervision and prudential regulation, both at national and international levels, harnessing from the experiences of a distinguished pool of global experts, academics and practitioners.



The Islamic Financial Services Board (IFSB) is an international standard-setting organisation that promotes and enhances the soundness and stability global prudential standards and guiding principles capital markets and insurance sectors. The IFSB also conducts research and coordinates initiatives on industry related issues, as well as organises roundtables, seminars and conferences




The 2nd edition of the IFSB-INCEIF Executive Forum focuses on strengthening both corporate and Shari`ah governance mechanisms in the Islamic banking industry. Corporate governance is discussed in the context of an evolving industry that is subject to the complexities of business, as well as to the need to promote Shari`ah compliance in Islamic banking operations.


Experienced practitioners, banking supervisors, and thought leaders of the Islamic financial services industry are brought together in this Executive Forum, which encourages knowledge sharing and active discussions. To allow this, participants are expected to have prior understanding of the demands and expectations of stakeholders with regards the corporate and Shari`ah governance functions in Islamic banks. Issues to be discussed will include the best practices of corporate and Shari`ah governance in the global Islamic financial services industry, and ways to incorporate these best practices within the organisation. This Executive Forum will also discuss the role and efforts of banking supervisors in ensuring that robust corporate and Shari`ah governance structures are in place. The Executive Forum is expected to contribute towards the reformation of current corporate and Shari`ah governance practices in the industry.
